Wooden Snake!!!

Well, I finally did it!!! I started wood carving class last night!!! It was a blast! I was the only female in a class full of mostly retired men.  What a hoot!  It was sooo quiet as we all sat working on our snakes. I sat chuckling to myself, that if this were a class full of women you would hear chatter not the scratch, scratch of the knife blade on wood.

Here's a look at my snake...it may need a little more refining before I paint it, but I'm pretty proud of it.

Questions, questions....

The first blog I found had some questions today, so I thought I'd answer them here too. (Thanks Carol E. @ Giraffe Dreams).

1. What is your absolute best asset?
I think it might be kindness.

2. What is the best thing that happened to you in the past week?
I started babysitting Kylie-a fifteen month old little girl. Her mom is single and is juggling a job and school. I go over to her house and keep Kylie while her mom goes to school. I feel so blest to be able to help.

3. What do you usually ust to mark a place in a book you are reading?
A book mark that my dad gave me many, many years ago. It's yellow with a little girl leaning on a tree on it.

4. How many times do you hit the snooze button in the morning?
Snooze button....I wake up before the alarm!

5. What was the last thing you put a postage stamp on?
A "just because" card to my niece.

PHEW!!!

What am I thinking?!?!? I've committed myself to making TWO baby quilts by Oct 20!!! I got 2 blocks done on one of them and half of the cutting done. The other one is just a pile of fabric on my studio floor.

Now it's time to battle the homework when our son gets home! He's failing science....all he has to do is get his work done and turned in on time....he just doesn't care. What's a mom to do?

Homecoming 2009

That's my girl! Last saturday was homecoming. Can't believe she's already a sophmore! I LOVE the shoes--her favorite-black (w/ pink accents) Converse. K was born with bi-lateral club feet, which makes it difficult for her to find shoes that fit. Her feet simply don't allow her to wear heels. This image is so totally "her". She's not one to wear dresses, but she wants a "princess" dress, she'd rather wear jeans, sweatshirts and Converse. She has been a sports fan since before she could talk. She's a HUGE fan of North Dakota State University football and basketball (her daddy has been taking her to games since she was 12 months old).
She is the light of my life. She is such a joy....I've heard other parents talk about how awful the teenage years are with their girls....we are actually becoming closer as she gets older.
That's enough about that. Just thought it would be nice to let everyone know that not all teens are "bad".

Staying still....

The last few days have been tough. The kids are back in school and my house is SOOOO quiet.
The leaves are turning as is the world. I cried when I saw geese heading south. I'm just not ready to face another cold winter. White is NOT a color and that is soon all I will see. My parent's house is now off the market and so we sit and wait. I'm tired of life moving ahead before I'm ready.

Another new chapter

My kids started back to school today. I can't believe how fast the years have gone by--even my kids said summer went so much faster this year. K is doing well at driving. She had her first session of behind-the-wheel with an instructor, who said all she needs to practice is backing into a parking spot and stopping behind the sidewalks.

N was really dreading school this year, as his best friend is in a different pod. Hopefully, he'll get over some of his shyness.

I spent saturday building a table for our bunny cage! I'm so proud of myself! I loosely followed instructions from a book. It turned out really nice.....I wonder if I could build a cabinent for my quilts....hmmmmm, maybe I'll look into that.
That's all for now. N will be home soon.

We're home!

It's been a busy few days since arriving home from Indiana. The kids and I have been doing last minute school shopping as well as, getting unpacked and all the laundry done.

I finished Yes Man this morning.....I've tried to say "yes" today, but I didn't do all that well. My kids have been digging into the books and videos from when they were small....dd came up with a pile of Arthur and Berenstein Bear books in her arms wanting me to read them. (Mind you, she's 15). I put her off so that I could finish the quilting I was in the middle of and of course, when I asked her if she really wanted me to read the books she had lost interest. Might have been fun to re-read those stories. I spent SOOO much time reading those books to her before she could read to herself.

I've got a few days to finish up some quilts before I "go to work". Not really leaving the house, but I will start building my stock of journal cover once the kids go back to school. Hope I can find the discipline to work everyday.

That's all for now....the kitchen is calling (time to start supper).
